The Basics of Chemistry

Chemistry is the study or study of matter. This includes the elements that make up our planet. It also includes chemical interactions that occur when different substances react with one another.

Bonding is one of the most important concepts within chemistry. It is responsible to the structure, stability, and reactivity materials.

What is Chemistry?

Chemicals are the stuff that we use everyday in our lives–soaps to wash our hair, perfumes to make us smell good, medicine to treat a fever or a cough. They can also help us to understand the world around and improve our health.

According to the American Chemical Society, Chemistry is the study and application of chemical reactions that occur when molecules, atoms, and ions come together.

Chemistry encompasses many different studies. These include making new molecules, ensuring that things follow environmental laws and teaching computers how to predict the behavior and behavior of matter. Chemistry is a field that has many interests, regardless of their specialization. However, they all share a common interest with molecules and a set principles that unify their diverse pursuits.


Atoms are fundamental building blocks for matter. They are composed of a central nucleus that is made up of protons (positive particle) and neutrons, which are neutral particles with no electrical charge.

An atom also contains electrons, which are negatively charged subatomic particles that move around the central nucleus. The chemical properties of an atom depend on the number and type of protons and neutrons.

In the dense, hot universe after the Big Bang, atoms were formed 13.7billion years ago. Quarks joined forces to form protons, neutrons as the universe cooled.


A molecule is a tiny piece of matter that retains all the chemical and physical properties of its substance. Molecules are the smallest unit of a substance and can be divided into smaller parts called atoms.

A molecule can have atoms derived from one element, such oxygen gas (O2), or ozone (3 O3); or it may include atoms derived from different elements like water. They can bond together chemically, no matter which type of atoms are involved to form a compound.

The study and understanding of matter is only possible with the help of molecules. They are the building blocks for everything we see. And they are also a big part of how we live.

Chemical reactions

A chemical reaction is when one or more substances (reactants), change to create new substances (products). These changes can take place in the laboratory, on a farm, in the ocean, or even in the body.

Chemical reactions are when atoms found in reactants such as hydrogen and oxygen break or change their bonds in order to form atoms that are used in products (such like methane, water, and so on). They are a central part of chemistry.

These reactions are often accompanied with visible changes like color change, gas release or formation of solids. They can also evoke electromagnetic radiation, including ultraviolet light.

Chemical Bonds

Chemical bonds are a way for atoms different elements to come together to make new compounds. These bonds are important in chemistry because they ensure stability for the resulting substances.

There are three main types: covalent (ionic), metallic (and a few others). All three types of chemical bond are formed when electrons are shared between atoms.

Covalent bonding refers to non-metallic nuclei sharing electrons in order to create polar covalent and non-polar bonds. These are created when electrons are divided unequally. Ionic bonding is when metals and other non-metals combine to produce both negatively charged (anions), and positively charged (cations).
